- A collision between vessels is defined ‘abbordo’ (boarding). The collision of one ship against another may be voluntary or accidental. When it is voluntary, its purpose is boarding and attack to seize of the opponent (Fincati, Luigi, Dizionario di marina italiano francese e francese italiano, Genova, Beuf, 1870, p. 58).
